| Born in San Diego, but raised in Stockholm, I have worked to follow a path of creativity. Like every other child, I started drawing and painting. I was grown and nurtured on art and design books, which helped distill a creative voice in myself. But as I matured, my passion for drawing and painting was slowly replaced by a growing love of design, and more specifically, communication. There is something inherently beautiful about our visual communicative culture; something unspoken and deeply powerful. Every day, we are bombarded with icons and images, things that influence the very way we think; but what makes some of these images more effective than others? As a designer, my passion is to understand what makes communication work; but as a human being, my passion is to utilize it in ways that help progress humanity. Like the artist uses his voice of painting to tell his concepts, I use a voice of design to share with the world what is important to me. While design itself is more commonly related to the commercial world, I believe its true potential has yet to be touched. Design is all about communicating efficiently and clearly. So rather than using my skills solely to sell things to you and make you spend money, I want to use it for more humanitarian means. I believe design can cause change in all of use. It can challenge our ideas and make us think. It can build peace and create riots. It can make us feel any emotion conceivable, and above all else, it can inform. I want to use design to help enrich the world with intelligence; for I believe with intelligence comes understanding. And with understanding, comes peace. "Graphic designers are idea embalmers, loving undertakers preserving bits of data like so many butterflies pinned to felt in a jewel box." - Paul Saffo |
